Aqua Maris® cannot be replaced by water and salt or a normal salt solution, since in this case you only get the saline (sodium chloride) solution. It’s unfit for long-term storage, because it will certainly contain bacteria. Aqua Maris® has its own unique composition of water microelements of the Adriatic Sea and each of them contributes to the product’s therapeutic effect. Aqua Maris® sterility at production facilities is ensured with a special seawater filtering method which makes it possible to preserve all useful microelements and to extract organic particles (bacteria, phytogenic or zoogenic substances), thereby avoiding aggressive sterilization methods.

Aqua Maris® restores mucosa, washing all parts of the nasal cavity and cleaning them from viruses and microorganisms. Microelements of Aqua Maris® improve local immunity (zinc, selenium) and activate mucosa cilia (magnesium, calcium). Once the nose is cleaned with Aqua Maris®, other products (vasoconstrictors, cromones, corticosteroids) can better penetrate mucosa, all of which makes it possible to reduce their dosage. Moreover, Aqua Maris® moisturizes mucosa; this is especially important after application of vasoconstrictors which lead to increased dryness and crust formation.

Vasoconstrictors cause constriction of mucosa blood vessels, eliminate oedema and restore nasal breathing However, all ‘chemical’ vasoconstrictors have a serious side effect: they can cause dryness of nasal mucosa. Moreover, their long-term and uncontrolled application can lead to the inverse effect – aggravation of oedema after withdrawal, the so-called drug-induced rhinitis, as well as atrophic rhinitis – mucous thinning and induration; even partial anosmia is possible. Aqua Maris® Strong eliminates nasal oedema and stuffiness and makes breathing easier by using an absolutely different mechanism. Aqua Maris® Strong is a hypertonic (salt-loaded) seawater solution able to ‘pull out’ excess liquid from the cells, reducing mucosa oedema and restoring breathing. Most importantly, the product can be used as often and as long as necessary, because it doesn’t have any of the side effects observed in ‘chemical’ vasoconstrictors. This allows unrestricted use of Aqua Maris® Strong by persons hypersensitive to chemical medications, as well as by pregnant and nursing mothers and babies over 1 year old.

Regular and thorough nose washing with Aqua Maris® Norm (2+ years old) or Aqua Maris® Baby Intensive Rinsing (3+ months old) is necessary in case of rhinitis, sinusitis and other nasopharynx diseases. Continuous seawater flow mechanically removes excessive mucus, viruses and bacteria, while microelements of Aqua Maris® restore and protect mucosa, preparing it for application of other drugs thus ensuring better therapeutic effects. The comprehensive action of Aqua Maris® sprays prevents further infectious contamination and reduces the duration of the respiratory disease.

If liquid gets into the nasal cavity under pressure, even a small oedema and nasal congestion form an obstacle on its way. As a result it can enter the eustachian tube, which is tightly connected with the nasopharynx, thus causing otitis – ear infection. People suffering from chronic nasopharynx diseases (maxillary sinusitis, frontal sinusitis, adenoiditis etc.) and frequent catarrhal diseases should treat their health carefully. As a rule, when these people have rhinitis, it ends with aggravation of a chronic disease, antibiotic treatment and a long recovery period. That is why not only during the illness but also during the asymptomatic period (remission) it is necessary to revitalize mucosa and improve its resistance to infections. Aqua Maris® Ectoin should be used every time a person suffering from allergic rhinitis leaves the house and plans to ‘meet’ the potential allergen. During pollinosis, it should be used daily in case of allergic response to animals, plant pollen, household chemicals and hypersensitivity to domestic dust. Aqua Maris® Ectoin should be used 10–15 minutes before contact with the assumed allergen or another irritant. Its effect lasts for about 3 hours. Before using Aqua Maris® Ectoin it is recommended to use Aqua Maris® Norm or Aqua Maris® Device for cleaning nasal mucosa and prepare it for the application of a specific medication. This will help to achieve maximum therapeutic effect.

Aqua Maris® Extrastrong helps to lavage all parts of the nasal cavity and clean them from mucosa and pathogenic microorganisms. Thus, the fluid allows to avoid infected mucus penetration in the paranasal sinuses and the middle ear cavity and prevent the development of possible complications (sinusitis, otitis).
